When the Glock first came out in the early/mid 80's, I thought it was the most ugliest, rediculous, plastic POS I'd ever seen. Through the years I kept hearing many good things about them, and then I shot a friends Glock. Now I've got 2, and I'm very happy with them. There must be some good reason why so many gun manufacturers have tried to copy it throughout the years, and 2/3 of the law enforcement communities in the USA (including the FBI and DEA) have them as standard issue.

Like Reiko said, pretty much any name brand stuff off the shelf will be fine. Winchester "white box" stuff is usually a good deal. I like to use FMJ's for target use, and hollowpoints for hunting or when I carry. Be sure to test fire your gun with the ammo you choose to carry with, just to be certain that your gun will function flawlessly with it. Some hp bullets have trouble feeding in some guns. When I carry, I like to use Winchester silvertip hp's in 175 grain (10mm).

i tell you what i really like for target shooting is the speer "lawman"
i'm usually not picky on plinking ammo, but i bought a case of that at a gunshow one time, same trip to the range i finished my last box of winchester, and then a box of the speer.
after shooting the speer, i noticed the winchester was burning my eyes, the speer seemed to burn much more efficiently, and thats all i have used since.
now for a mag full of home defense rounds.......black talon all the way
you can still find them, getting pricey though.

I've heard from a few pretty reliable sources that Glock contracts almost all of their guns out n bulk to those agencies for roughly $150.00 a gun. Beretta and Sig are in the range of $300-$450 in bulk contracts. Goota love that the almighty dollar takes precident of human life when those agencies are buying guns for their civil servants...

A target shoot with 230 .45's and carry hallow points...I think that the last box I bought was Winchester.

Those Russian (or maybe they're Korean) rounds with the green casing? I was going to recommend that those would be the one and only brand not to buy. I've never known anyone that has NOT has problems with those rounds. The bright white flash out of the muzzle of the guns the shoot those rounds is also a little disturbing. To each their own, I guess.

I've never shot those rounds, I've heard too many bad stories about them.

Dear God! Lisa with a gun. That's like feeding me Red Bulls and Vodka and putting me in a bar with people who I think are hitting on my wife...no telling what will happen. Wait...that exact scenario DID happen.
Either way, Lisa + gun = BAD!!!!

Without a doubt, price is somewhat of a factor, but simplicity and reliability are definately paramount when the departments make these decisions. Glocks have earned an excellent history and track record for many years, under extreme real world military/combat conditions around the world. Like an AK-47 or a Mossberg 500A shotgun which are also "cheap" guns, I'd depend on them without hesitation also in a life threatening situation. My point: cheap doesn't necessarily mean it's junk.

The newer Wolf ammo uses a green polymer coating versus the previous stuff which was laquer coated. It seems that in certain rapid fire conditions where the barrel and chamber got really hot, and a round was left in the chamber, the laquer would melt and cause the case to jam in the chamber. Personally, I've gone through 1,000's of rds. in my AK, and have never once had a FTF, or any other problems with Wolf ammo (even the old laquered stuff). About my only gripes is the red primer sealant which seems to flake off when fired and gets all over inside the action of the gun, and the powder they use smells terrible.
