The same is true with Dodge & Chrysler, Pontiac & Buick, etc. Too many dealerships sell the same car. And the manufacturers sell too many cars based on the same platform (Malibu & G6, Grand Prix & Impala, etc.). Cadillac is the only GM division not sharing platforms and they are the healtiest of the bunch (OK so the XLR and Corvette share the same platform...)
Isn't the CTS built on the Impala platform? Kinda like the Cimarron was built on the Cavalier platform.
