My heap

Here's a few pic's to get things started. I had to repair some rot in the frame rail below the drivers side strut tower. You can where see I cut it out and refinished it. Turned out pretty good. I POR-15'd it after that. You can also see I filled in the a/c holes in the firewall and also smoothed the cowl. Santa bought me a bead roller for x-mas so I'll make some panels for the front of the engine compartment to cover up that mess.

Here's a pic of the full length 2 X 3 connectors I'm putting in. I'm also replacing all of the floor as well. I picked up a floorpan from a MM member. It only cost $20. I'm using the middle section and a few other pieces. The stuff I can't use I'll fab myself. I still have to install the front outrigger. I'll do that once I figure out where my roll cage tube is going to be hitting the floor.

This is a .125" plate that I had fabbed at the local sheetmetal shop. Instead of just welding in a flat piece of plate to the inner rocker I had it bent to follow the countour of the inner rocker panel. It will run from near the bottom of the inner rocker and go up and over the top of the inner rocker. I'm not sure if it'll be any stronger, but I figured what the heck.

Looks good

Looks great!

Thanks guys. It's getting there slowly but surely. Once I get the passenger side frame rail done, things will really start moving along.
|
I managed to make it out to the garage for a couple hours today. The drivers side is 99.99% complete. A couple more welds then it's on to the other side. I'm hoping to have a roller again in about three more weeks.
|
good work so far... I enjoy watching cars come together.
|
Thanks.

Since I'm stuck in the house I decided to try and get some work done on my Mega-Squirt EFI controller. This is a very slow moving long term project that I have been working on for my car.

Picked up a couple Paxton billet filters. They came with two NIB 40 micron and two NIB 10 micron elements. Gonna run the 40 micron off the tank in front of my pumps and the 10 micron after the pumps. Paid $80 for everything.

Spent about 2.5hrs. in the garage today. Got some sheetmetal trimmed out to allow the pass. side 2 X 3 frame rails to be installed. Also did the last of the welding on the drivers side for now. Got a little bit more welding left to do but I gotta wait until I start installing my cage to finish that up. Gonna start fitting the pass. side rail soon.
|
I spent about 1.5hrs. in the garage tonight. Got the longest section of frame rail made up for the pass. side. It's the one that extends back from the firewall to the rear. Little bit of finish work to do on it and it'll be ready to be welded in permanently. The rest should go real quick since they are smaller pieces that are pretty simple to make and install. I'm gettin' pumped to see this thing back on the ground. I gotta re-assemble my rear axle. I can probably do that at work when I'm working on the weekend when nobody is around.
|
Glad to hear it's coming along.

Did some more work on the car last night. Nothing glamorous. Fitting and welding on the pass. side frame rail.
|
Well worked on the car again today for a bit. Unfortunately it was to correct a mistake I made last night. One step forward- two steps back! Can't really complain though since everything has been going pretty smooth so far. I also mounted my ET Streets on my rims. I will take them to the tire store tomorrow to get balanced.

Just a quick update for you guys. It's been insane at my job, putting in alot of long/ stressful days so I haven't had the energy to hit the garage in the evenings. I took my 8.8/ parts/ tools into work yesterday since I was there for 16hrs. and it was going to be quiet for a change. I managed to get my 3.27 gears setup. Just have to repack my t-lok and the rear is good to go. I would have completed my t-lok but I needed one of my axles to finish it and I forgot it at home.:mad::mad: It should be done tonight if all goes well. I'm on vacation starting friday so I should get it rolling soooooon.
|
8.8 is done! Just need to clean and install the backing plates and the axles. Probably start painting it tonight.:)
|
