Von Smith Gets On Right Path In Qatar

Von Smith still isn’t where he wants to be.But it’s certainly a whole lot better than where he just was.After failing to qualifying for Round One of the Arabian Drag Racing League at Qatar Racing Club, the 2010 NHRA Pro Mod Champion at least improved on that, qualifying in the No. 4 spot for last week’s Round Two.Smith lost in the first round to Rickie Smith, but at least qualifying was a step in the right direction.“The car is responding to what we are doing,” Von Smith said. “We ran three 3.70s in a row, so at least we’re going down the track. We’re feeling a lot better about things.”As you could imagine, however, Smith is still nowhere near satisfied heading into Round Three on Thursday.With such a loaded field, those times still need to drop and Smith knows it. Frankie Taylor has already gone 3.61 and winners already include standouts J.R. Todd and Joshua Hernandez. Still, with such a new car, Smith is confident the best is yet to come.“That’s what makes this class so good is the parity,” Smith said. “The car is running a little better, but we have to find out what it wants.“We’ve just got to continue to work.
