A new look has seemingly always brought Joshua Hernandez new success. It also appears the theory works anywhere in the world.Hernandez debuted a new Bahrain Racing wrap on his ‘57 Chevy for Round One of the Arabian Drag Racing League and those familiar with new looks and Hernandez should know how this played out.Hernandez won the loaded Pro Extreme class at Qatar Race Club last week, knocking off Bahrain Racing teammate Rickie Smith in the finals.“Every time we put a new sponsor on the car, it wins,” Hernandez said. “It seems to like new paint.” There’s plenty more to it, but the results are a touch eerie. When Hernandez debuted the “Fight Me” wrap earlier this year, he went to the finals in the first race and convincingly won the second - the Summer Drags in Martin, MI in June. With that look now in the past, Hernandez appears just as impressive with the predominantly red and white Bahrain Racing wrap. The win in Qatar meant as much as any of Hernandez’s American Drag Racing League (ADRL), in part because of who he beat and in part of how rewarding this experience has already been.Hernandez qualified in the No. 3 spot with a 3.77 and his reward for a strong qualifying session was 2010 ADRL PX World Champion Frankie Taylor in the first round. It was a rematch of the World Finals that took place in Ennis, Texas just more than a month ago, but Hernandez got the win this time, going 3.69 at 203 miles per hour.“We were pretty confident in that first round and we ran well, but you just never know how it’s going to go,” Hernandez said. A round later, Hernandez met J.R. Todd, the former NHRA Top Fuel standout who was making his Pro Extreme debut.Todd turned plenty of heads in qualifying, but Hernandez got the best of him in the semifinals, going an impressive 3.68 to meet his teammate in the finals. Both struggled with their car, but Hernandez out-pedaled Smith in an all-Bahrain Racing final. That made the moment special for Hernandez, but the win was just as extraordinary considering the current festive atmosphere in Qatar.“The energy that’s going on over here, with the (Qatar Race Club), Qatar getting the World Cup (in 2022), it’s just crazy,” Hernandez said. “To put it together with a win, it means a lot.”Starting so well with such a strong field was also noteworthy. It’s nothing new for Hernandez, who has raced against the best for years in the ADRL’s PX class, but there’s the feeling that the PX class in Qatar is an all-star lineup. With added names like Todd, Von Smith and Mike Stawicki paired alongside the ADRL standouts, every race is challenging.Of course, when the wins come, it’s that much more rewarding.“When you look around at the cars in the staging lanes, it’s hard to think you’re on the same level. It’s a pretty high-caliber deal,” Hernandez said. “There’s a lot of money and a lot of experience every time you hop in the car.“There are no ducks out here. It’s just one after the other. They’re all top 10 names who have either helped invent the class or taken it to the next level. When you get in this mix, you better be ready for anything.”Hernandez and his team had the car rolling in the first week, but he’s just as excited to see what the future holds over the final seven races.Round Two starts on Thursday, while the three-race stretch this month finishes on Dec. 17-18.“We’re looking forward to this week,” Hernandez said. “We’ve got the car running pretty good.”http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/ADRLNews/~4/_fy8hYYOzBM
