Your agent knows it wasn’t the way Doug Riesterer wanted to enter the “Battle For The Belts” field, but he was still impressed that he made the most of the opportunity. After Charles Carpenter withdrew from the Pro Nitrous field to be with his wife and family during a difficult and trying time, Riesterer moved into the No. 8 qualifying spot.It didn’t take long for Riesterer and his ‘68 Camaro to make the most of the opening, as he beat No. 7 qualifier Steve Vick to jump into the field on Friday at Texas Motorplex. He lost a round later to Jim Halsey in an excellent drag race, but Riesterer was proud of his team’s effort.“We were happy to be in for us, but we certainly feel bad for Charles and his family and wish them nothing but the best,” Riesterer said. “We just wanted to show up and do our best.”Riesterer, who finished just 10 points out of eighth place before Carpenter withdrew, went 3.93 against Vick and was running solid at the tail end of the season. He was the No. 1 qualifier in Topeka and followed it by winning Simpson Dragstock VII, which was completed at Summit Motorsports Park a month ago in Norwalk, OH.Your agent thought that might be enough to get Riesterer in the top-eight field, but Vick edged him out on participation points. Riesterer didn’t get in until Carpenter withdrew and he immediatley put together a solid performance in ousting the always-game Vick.Being a LenMar Motorsports-sponsored car also means a lot for Riesterer since LenMar is the title sponsor for the World Finals event at Texas Motorplex. He had hoped to win for LenMar co-owners Mark Eddins and Gaylen Smith, but your agent was still impressed with his performance. “We were happy to get by Steve,” Riesterer said. “He’s a tough competitor and he’s been good all year. We thought it would be a good drag race and it was.“We showed up here and thought we could win. We’re not posting quite as big of numbers as everyone, but I think we can get there.”(Photos by ADRL/Richards)http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/ADRLAgent660/~4/8LfdoCixzww
