Joshua Hernandez will take plenty of good feelings into Houston Raceway Park (HRP) for a variety of reasons for this weekend’s ADRL Inaugural Texas Drags. For one, it’s the Houston native’s home track, which is pleasant enough in its own right, high temperatures and all.Secondly, the Pro Extreme standout started strong in 2010, jumping to the top spot in qualifying in the opening race, the ADRL Universal Technical Institute (UTI) Dragpalooza VI presented by Safety-Kleen, before the rain postponed the event in March. The completion of that race will take place Friday, and Hernandez hopes to finish what he started.“You have to put your gameface on a little earlier,” Hernandez said of the double-race weekend. “It can be exhausting and you have to get up for it mentally every time. That trophy adds a little more pressure and you can’t waste any time to step it up.”Hernandez will also bring a different look to HRP this time around. His ‘57 Chevy sported ADRL trim in marching to the top of the ladder with a 3.68 at 208 miles per hour in March. Now, the Pro Extreme car looks totally different, decked out with the striking Fight Me MMA logos after they became major sponsors in May.Hernandez has won a race and went to another championship round in another with the new look, jumping to third in the points in the process. “The boys at the shop worked all winter on making the car quicker and more consistent, and the results are amazing,” Hernandez said.Hernandez was also the top qualifier in Topeka earlier this month before rain postponed that event.Setting the car up for what Houston will present in mid-July will be a totally different story, however.“Speaking for Houston, it’s going to be the worst conditions we see all year,” Hernandez said. “The track will be slippery, the air will be hot and the moisture will be high. All of these factors mean less horsepower and less traction.“You won’t have a lot of those crazy numbers.”Hernandez has put plenty of those up all year, but isn’t banking doing anything like that at HRP with track temperatures approaching 150 degrees.Still, it will be difficult terrain for everyone. Hernandez just hopes his team figures it out enough to finish the job he started in March.“Every time you go down the track, you’re racing that racetrack,” Hernandez said. “It’s guys like Jim (Oddy) and the rest of the team who are looking at those conditions and trying to get everything to match up.“It is sure to be exciting and entertaining.” http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/ADRLNews/~4/oSvsTMfuJug
