It didn’t take long for Doug Riesterer’s 3.84-second run in Pro Nitrous at the ADRL Hardee’s Independence Drags IV in Topeka to have an impact. In fact, there was already plenty of reaction before he even got back to the pits.“I betcha I had 10 texts from people by the time I got back to our pit,” Riesterer said. “I was getting texts from people I haven’t talked to in months.”Not a bad way to make an impact and also not a bad way to break out of a lengthy slump. The texts came from people watching the ADRL’s live online video coverage and several may have been out of sheer surprise in watching Riesterer jump to the top of qualifying at the Independence Drags at Heartland Park Topeka. After a quiet Friday, Riesterer shot up to the top qualifying spot in the final qualifying round, going 3.894 at 186.69 miles per hour. Before the rain came and postponed the finish of the event, Riesterer also won a first-round matchup in final eliminations, which was more than enough for the Victoria, TX native to declare the weekend a success.“After we went .89, we could have gone home right then,” Riesterer said. “That made our whole year. We’ve been struggling all year and we didn’t expect a run like that. Needless to say, we were on top of the world.”Riesterer is still working out the kinks in his flashy ‘68 Camaro, but that run in Topeka was all he needed to see to know he and his team are on the right track. It’s been an arduous process, but Riesterer feels he’s going in the right direction as the season nears the halfway point.“It’s been a brand new deal, so we’re just trying to get used to it,” Riesterer said. “The car can definitely go quicker, but we’re just trying to learn from each pass and improve from there.”Riesterer also feels primed for a big impact at the ADRL Inaugural Texas Drags, which takes place July 23-24 at Houston Raceway Park in Baytown, TX.The track is less than three hours from Riesterer’s hometown and he wants to make a big splash on a double-race weekend. The completion of the ADRL Universal Technical Institute (UTI) Dragpalooza VI presented by Safety-Kleen takes place on Friday, with the Texas Drags to follow on what Riesterer hopes will be a productive weekend.“Quite honestly, we’ve struggled on cool tracks. We feel good on hot tracks, so we’re looking forward to this,” Riesterer said. “It’s kind of our home track and I think we’ll go good down there.” http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/ADRLNews/~4/k_IBMIbB_Gw
