He hasn’t called it home too often, but Extreme Pro Stock driver Cale Aronson was still plenty pleased to make the short trek to Heartland Park Topeka for last weekend’s ADRL Hardee’s Independence Drags IV.The Chillicothe, MO, native is starting to find consistency in his ‘10 Mustang and, in this “Beyond the Guardwall” segment, Aronson also talked about having fun promoting the race to his local fanbase and what’s in store for the rest of the season.ADRL: What was your mindset racing at what is considered your home track?ARONSON: It doesn’t really change too much. I guess it does and it doesn’t. I don’t have too much time on this track. I’ve raced here three times prior to this, but I enjoy it. I like being close to home. The one thing that is nice is I’ve got a lot of customers in my business that get to come out. They’re all local racers, so it’s nice for them to come out.ADRL: What was the reaction you had from your local community leading up to this race?ARONSON: I think I gave out 6,700 tickets to this race. My town was saturated with tickets. Everybody wanted to know where to get them. We knew a lot of people were going to be here. It’s a little more stressful on one hand, but I enjoy it.ADRL: You were part of a number of public appearances leading up to the Hardee’s Independence Drags IV. Is that something you enjoy?ARONSON: I really do enjoy that stuff. It doesn’t bother me to jump into that mode. What’s neat is when you do something like that, you’re educating new people. You’re going to them and that’s kind of nice.I think I signed about 2,500 autographs. I signed casts, signed shirts and the neatest thing was being able to interact with all those people. It was a lot of fun.ADRL: Are there aspects of Heartland Park Topeka that you enjoy?ARONSON: I do like the pit facilities. The park is good to work with and it’s a consistent track. That’s really nice and that’s awesome. The facility is huge, but it’s nice. In truth, it’s one of the best places for the racers. The track is a little more finicky and it’s a tricky track. ADRL: Knowing what you know about HPT, how do you come up with a strategy for a track you know is going to be tricky?ARONSON: I think consistency is what prevails and not having aborted runs. Putting it on the edge is something you don’t really want to do. ADRL: The race in Martin was a little bit of a struggle for you in the new car. How are you coming along with this car now? Does it feel more comfortable?ARONSON: We’re actually starting to find some stuff. I’ve played with the clutch set-up a lot and this engine has been updated since last year. I’ve only got 33 runs with this car and I’m still finding it. Now, I’m starting to find the consistency with it. I lost that, and now we’re starting to get its performance back. We’ll keep plugging away, but it’s got a lot more in it. http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/ADRLNews/~4/qRwB1CEwwzE
