T/AD Driver Shelly Howard and her son were killed in a freak racing accident at Tulsa Dragway on Saturday. During an exhibition run(her 3rd with the new car) Shelly Howard experienced a blow over at the top end of the track. The car changed directions 180 degrees, raced back up the track to the start line, where it colided with the teams tow vehicle in which Shellys son was sitting. Eye witnesses state that the dragster started to lift off the track at about 900 feet, crossed the finish line, finished the flip, and then the engine re ignited (nitro car)and raced back up the track striking the retaining wall several times before crashing at the starting line. she and her son are survived by her husband and 2 daughters.

:( Truely sad. I have no idea how I would react to that if it was my wife/kid? (I'm not married or anything but just in general)

I know what ya mean. Her family is fortunate, the whole racing community from Tulsa to Texas to California has pulled together to support the family.
She was a 2 time division champ in T/AD, raced against Ashley Force, and the late Darryll Russell, plus many others

None of us know when our number will be called, or how it's going to happen.

I was on an accident tonite where this very thing came true for one unfortunate guy. I'm sure he didn't expect to die on his 50th b-day. But I will post more about it later along with some pictures of the accident scene.
