Wow, haven't seen that car in a while! That car is one of my favorites.....

Its getting closer to running, so after a long hiatus in hibernation.....it will grace the streets once again....here is what under the hood looks like:

Here is a bit of an update.

The cross-over, downpipe, wastegate plumbing and turbo bracket are fabbed up and welded and now at QC Coatings.

I have only a few last jobs to tie up and the car will be running.

I have some pics I will post later of the plumbing and what the engine looks like now.

maybe, but its more of a fun street car. If I go to the track.....I'll just want to go faster....and before I know it I will be converting to a super street car or outlaw radial. Its kinda like a recovering addict, the best thing for me to do it stay away from the drag strip and I will control the urge :D .

I remember the firebird......and on the way to that race on Groesbeck I whooped up on a GN and made a guy riding a 900RR look like this....:eek:. Because the instant power of the blower, I rarely remember loosing, but I also rarely ever looked for a race. I had more fun cruising and just running from a roll......I surprised a lot of people.....all on chrome 17" OZ (Vanilla Ice) wheels.

It will be nice to have it back out.

I did the same thing to a Mustang GT with a windsor and a T-Trim on 16 Mile Rd. I think the guy thought it was going to be a joke, man was he surpised.

It makes me want to build a sleeper, but everyone is on to sleepers...now a days.

here are a few pics of the intake tube with the blowoff valve mounted. I also took one of the radiator, its hard to tell from the pics, but I actually tucked a C&R radiator under the core support....but to do so I had to cut off the stock lower portion and weld in a chrome moly tubular piece I got from Dave at Team Z. It really opens up the room and now the rad is out of the way.

I'm still waiting on the turbo hot parts to be coated, but once those are completed......it will go into final assembly mode and then start it up.

It wasn't really about the car being faster than mine, it was more a story of being uneducated in the ways of street racing.....lets just put it this way....the race ended with this expression....."u chase, its a race"......after that I thought this was such BS since I felt like I had been swindled. After that I said no more money racing......its takes all the BS out.

got it running over this past weekend...needless to say there were a couple of issues....such as a leaky waterpump and also some other electrical issues.

hope to post a video and other pics once I get some of these issues resolved.

Why are you running with no intercooler? E85?

I'm running 110 octane and the intercooler issue is something that is a sore spot with me. I have a hard time understanding how a air-air intercooler on a street car with next to no front air opening is going to do me any good. I have asked many people to show me inlet temps before and after and have seen no one that can prove that A/A Intercoolers will be that benficial. From what I learned with the Radial Car.....turbo tuning is nothing like blowers/NA or NOS. Timing and lean fuel conditions don't show big increases in HP....so my thought was.......if the intercooler only drops the inlet temp by lets say 25-30% (based on heat soak and worse case scenario since you have to tune this way for a street car) then it would not make sense. So, for me the benefit on an a/a cooler was just not worth it. I will do more testing once the car is up and running to see what the inlet temps are since I can compare it to lidio's inlets on his car and determine what to do later.

I cant give you before and after numbers with a turbo setup. But from a super charger at 17lbs of boost (S-trim) I was at 250-270 on the inlet temps. That is with no cooler,nos,meth nothing. Now with the turbo and a A/A up front I have not seen anything over 180. Most of the graphs are 161-172. I had a small cooling problem early untill I cut about 3-4" under the front bumper for more air flow. This made a huge difference. The car really never ran over 180-190 (rad temp) tops crusen around. 200 if i was stuck in rush hour traffic. M59 at rush hour sucks in the middle of Augest. I drive this car more that I race it. Its not as fast as the bigboyz on the board. But I'm happy with it. Not sure if this helps at all but I thought I would toss it out there for you.

I would still put one on unless, i see where it will not benefit from one. Look at the old NMRA SSO turbo cars of the day....the only way to get those cars to leave was to flood them with fuel since timing made no difference.

Yup, I used 1.75" aluminium tubing with silicone couplers and t-bolt clamps. I'll try to get a pic of it.

Got it running over the weekend, but after running for about 45 seconds it started to make a squeeling noise from the trans......needless to say I had to take the trans out.....come to find out the pump bearing got locked and spun on the convertor input shaft. I ended up calling Fred Anglebrandt who had a new pump laying around and went through the trans just to make sure everything was clean. (Thanks Fred)

Had the trans in and out in one day and it was running again that evening. Everything is good now....throttle response is way better than my old DR motor....this 418CI is a bad bitch.

sorry, i had a new baby boy about 4 weeks ago, so i've been a little tied up. The car runs and most everything is worked out. I have now found that I damaged the trans while adjusting the TV cable, so I went to a constant pressure VB which eliminates the sensitivity of the TV cable. The trans seems to shift real soft in 2nd and reverse doesn't engage unless I bring it off idle. I am going to pull it and have it freshened in july. I can still drive the car and for the most part do WOT runs but third goes into nuetrel at 5700rpm's....which makes me think third is toasted as well. On 20psi it is unreal. I raced a buddy's lightning which has a 383ci and a vortech X-trim and you could see the shear power the car makes. The wastegate won't open any less than 12psi and fully opens at 16psi so the boost control is useless which makes the useless anything under 60mph. I plan to have that sorted out in the next week and will be going to Milan for a track rental on Aug 14th. I expect it to run low 6's in the 1/8 at around 118-120mph. That should be good for 9.50's-9.70's on the 17" tire.

The idea that I decided not to run an intercooler seems to be the wrong idea. I have been logging inlet temps and they are exceeding 255 degrees so my plans for next winter are to put an A/A intercooler up front and switch the AOD for an AOD-e with a lock up converter.

I also built an aluminum muffler for the car which help quiet it down significantly.

still don't know how 100-200 people found out about that race and where it was going to be at? we turned down that rd and were like wtf? after the burnout and seen a another car f*%king coming i knew it was not gonna happen there! then when we were out on the highway with f#*king 20+ cars behind us you would have thought a few of them would have stopped traffic so we could try it again?

hell we knew you would beat us even from a dig but we could not get a race that night and we knew you would!

still don't know how 100-200 people found out about that race and where it was going to be at? we turned down that rd and were like wtf? after the burnout and seen a another car f*%king coming i knew it was not gonna happen there! then when we were out on the highway with f#*king 20+ cars behind us you would have thought a few of them would have stopped traffic so we could try it again?
