Ok, I'll rephrase, Daimler is the first company to become an automanufacterer, in other words, that was their "business". The second company was a US company, who was it, and it aint ol Henry

The fun part of the internet, the constant updating of information. From what I can find

The most units in a model year goes to the 1966 with 607,568 units

Lowest production was the 1992 model year, at 79,096 units.

This should be an easy one, what foriegn made POS was Ford gonna try and pass off as a Mustang in 1994?

There were 3 made... One a hardtop, one a t-top, and one a hardtop with a 5 speed. They were all test mules and destroyed. Theres a lot of contreversy on the internet about this but my ex's dad used to work for GM in 1986 and he drove all 3 of them.

4 bolt main

Although they do have 4 bolt mains, thats more of a power holder than a producer, what aspect of the motor, power wise, is the difference between Boss and non-Boss?. In another way, why cant you just throw a complete Boss in a Fox, without using some custom parts.

Boss is Cleveland based...

Swifster
03-05-2005, 09:28 AM
Boss is Cleveland based...

Wouldn't that be the other way around. The Boss 302 came out in '69 and the 351 Cleveland (Boss) didn't come out until '71. Not being that fluent in FSB, I can only guess that along with a forged lower end, that the heads are completely different and these make the engine too wide to fit in the engine compartment.

At least a 460 will fit... :D

Strtracer
03-05-2005, 10:15 AM
OK, thats the difference, the Boss small block motors use canted valve heads, ala, the Cleveland, so fit and exhaust for a fox are almost none existance. The other issue is that if you put, or try to put, standard windsor heads on a Boss block, it will over heat, because the waterports are different from windsor to cleveland or Boss. Canted valve head was a great idea(think BB Chevy), to bad it disappeared. And to bad the Boss 429 didnt get more developement.

Bubba, you gonna answer the V8 question, you never confirmed the answer.

Lets try this one. When, and why, did the Chevy 396 become a 402, and why did GM continue to call it a 396?

http://www.442.com/oldsfaq/ofhst.htm

The first serious attempt at a commercially viable V-8 was by De Dion around 1910. Cadillac examined this design as well as the Hall-Scott aero engine, and released their vastly superior engine in September 1914. Cadillac is generally regarded as having the first successful production V-8 engine. They were also the first to introduce an inherently balanced V-8 (quartered crankshaft with integral counterweights vs. a flat 4 cylinder crank). However, none of these were OHV designs.

BigWheelinBubba

396/402 first used in 1970. Reason why? I heard that it was because all the 396's they had rusted out in the cylinder walls and they had to be overbored.

Nobodys got a guess on the 396?

OK, its definitely a tough one.Newer Emissions laws went into effect in January of 1970, but motors of 400 cubes or bigger were not effected, so every 396 made after December of 1969 got a .030 overbore, making it a 402, but Chevy had so much invested in the 396's reputation, they continued to call it a 396.
