Damn home computer decided to freak out on me. Spent 1.5 hours on the phone with some Dell tech support guy in India. Got me no where. Fixed the problem myself somehow.

Then downloaded a new Win XP patch and then the computer just came crashing down. It won't let me access e-mail or the Internet anymore. There was some stuff that must have got past my firewall cause I had some spyware icons on my desk top. Found a couple of virus and MacAfee cleaned those up.

Dell is telling me I need to back up all my files and may have to reload Windows XP.

I tried to do a system restore from a previous date like I had done in the past, but now it won't do that. Each time I try it boots back up and says unable to complete.

Anyone know anything about computers??

#1 McAfee is JUNK.
#2 Dell is right up there with McAfee.

Try and reboot in safe mode. Then go in and try system restore.

Once you get it running try AVG anti-virus. Its free (do a search) and doesn't use up system resources like McAfee of Norton does. And ALWAYS update your virus definitions. I have mine set up to scan for viruses every night. Its best to catch the problem early.

If you need more help my brother is a computer geek. He should be able to help you after he gets home from work tonite.

I refuse to run anything but Dell servers as there support and equipment is top notch. If I buy a pc for anyone I go dell, their support on home stuff does suck as it is in India. According to my corporate rep though, they are moving all of that back to Texas due to all of the complaints and lost customers.

MCafee is ok for the home user but I prefer Symantec.

I have a Dell, and all my support is in english :D . But it's under a small business account. As for anti-virus and firewalls, I use the free download from AVG to handle the anti-virus. For my firewall, I use the free download from Zone Alarm. As for spyware, I run Spybot Search and Distroy (this is free too). These have worked fine with no problems.
