well i just got a new truck, and plan on keepin it for quite a while. so wanted to get it all prepped before winter falls.

I already got a good coat of wax on and plan a cple more, but Im lookn into gettn some sort of underbody protectant on. I'm gonna go to ziebart and see what they charge for the underside, and im also gonna go to murrays and see what they got.

I plan on covering pretty much the entire underside, including the insides of the fenders, i dont want one bit of rust on this thing for quite a while.

Over the years, what have any of you found works or doesnt work to help keep rust away besides the normal cleaning it off over week or so?

thanks, nick

I know a place that has an undercoating system similar to Ziebart.

I've known him for about 25 years. Don't get me started on those houses he owns  I rented one for a while and we had a little falling out after but we're buddies again :)

I used to spray undercoating for Auto One stores.
IMO I would never use any product like that. All it does is close the factory drain holes and make a mess of the underside of the vehicle.
Just keep it clean by hitting the drive through car wash or spray the underside a couple times month during the salt season and you will be fine.

I have a 2000 GMC that I bought new and it has 160K on the clock. Aside from the factory frame coating flaking off, it still looks great :D
Undercoating is overrated, especially on the metals used today. Save you money.

so seriously its not even worth it.....hmmmm

at murrays they had a spray on bedlinerish material outta a spray can, i was thinkin of doin the fender wells.

do you have any surface rust at all? Ive had a cple ppl now tell me not to waste my time and just clean it every cple weeks. but the fact that the trucks been sittin on the lot all summer and the frame has a bit of rust already is worryn me for 5 yrs down the road.

The frame won't rust thru.. it'll take 50 years for that to happen unless you drive on dirt roads and never clean it.

Just keep it clean.. ;)

I have surface rust on the frame where the factory coating has flaked off, but that's it :D
