It's scary seeing that they will give this type of license to just any yahoo who asks for one. I'm staying home and keeping the doors locked from now on.

they dont just give it to anyone, they do a background check, police records and such. its easier in macomb than in wayne or other areas but still. i m sure there are alot of people out there carry illegally not that ill carry all the time but if i need to i can and i can go to gun shows and just buy and not make a stop to the macomb county sherriff first. ;)
Congrats and welcome to the club.:smoke:

Even after extensive background checks and an 8 hr. training class by a certified instructor (which includes actual range time), you still have to go before the Macomb county gun board (which consists of the Prosecuting Attorney Eric Smith, Macomb County Sheriff Mark Hackel and Michigan State Police Lt. Robert York) for an intimidating "interview" to be approved, in a courtroom type atmosphere.

Ok, I have to ask....WHY do you need to carry a gun guys?
I had a neighbor at my last house that carried...but he owned his own business and made nightly cash deposits at the bank. I understood the need for him to have a gun.

Its better to have a gun and not need it, than to need it and not have it.
I'd rather be tried by 12 than carried by 6.

What exactly did they ask you when you went for this interview? Ive heard it was a brief 2min interview or so.
What exactly did they ask you when you went for this interview? Ive heard it was a brief 2min interview or so.When you are called up, the three afforementioned gun board members will each have a copy of your complete police history in front of them. They will each ask you several questions based upon what they see, along with various personal questions. Even though Michigan is a "shall issue" state, they may also ask you why you want/need a CPL, upon which you simply say "personal protection", and nothing more. Typically the Michigan State Police representative will decline you (I'm told that they fear for their trooper's safety during routine traffic stops), but you'll still get you license since the other 2 will approve you. When you first walk into the room, try to get a seat in the front so you can see/hear the other people getting interviewed. This will allow you to better expect what kind of questions they will ask you when you're called up.

they ask y u want it...say personal protection they ask if u had a reason to fear for your protection, then they ask if mental illness, or criminal offenses, thats about it takes less than a minute or 2,

thats what i kinda figured, but when you said "Any reasons to fear personal protection".. i mean saying no almost sounds like the wrong answer as well. I would think theyd wonder why then.

Just tell them you drive a nice car, and have a good job and at times you carry a pocket full of money. You're a carjackers dream
