Tape delay 9pm-12am ESPN2
Anybody following this. Its one of the closest races in FunnyCar History, the top 3 in points are only 30pts apart after qualifying. Force is running an unpainted Carbon Fiber body with minimum stickers, to save weight, in hopes of setting a National ET Record for the extra 20 pts. Selczi is in 1st, 10 pts in front of Ron Capps.
None will face each other till the semi finals, if they make it.
First round is over and all three have advanced.

Nice racing, but I think Gary would have done it by winning the event. He seemed to be a little off when the camera turned to him when he first found out Force went down.

I think all the front runners choked, but ya gotta hand it to the Force Camp for even having a car in the finals, that took some work.

Yeah it's not like he never one a championship-he does have 13!!
Just got back from up north and watched this last night. It really didn't matter to me who would win the funny car championship, since I like/respect all three of the drivers who were in contention to win it. I thought it was great how everyone at least got past the first round of eliminations, since it really added to the drama. I must have rewound the tape a 1/2 dozen times just to see Whit Bazemore rip the timing block off the front of his car in disgust after losing to JF in the first round.:lol:

He seemed to be a little off when the camera turned to him when he first found out Force went down.Scelzi is actually really lucky he made it to the 2nd round, because he chattered his tires hard about 60-100 ft. out, but didn't smoke the tires/lose traction in the first round. As far as Gary being "a little off", I think that he was looking at the ET on the scoreboard, and not the win light (Force's car was quicker, but lost on the holeshot). He actually probably thought at the moment he had lost the championship.
All in all, it was a great showdown for the FC championship, and season ending race.
