Depends on what you're looking for, lots of property? Lakefront? We have been looking around the Gladwin area for property. Not too crowded and it's only about 2 hours away.

My uncle has property up in Gladwin. Nice quiet area. Cadillac area is nice. Not sure what you're looking to spend but Traverse City or Charlevoix are some really nice area(probably a little pricey though!)

I dunno how far you guys are looking to go. But we went up north 2-3 times this yr and theres a TON of property for sale up in the East Jordan area. We were on Lake Charlevoix.

Id give a  to any of the above mentioned areas, along with the thumb area, Capac, or along Lake Huron. there are some great areas north of Port Huron

LOL, she said north,not southwest.

Say ya to da U.P. eh. Its nice up there, but its not really a weekend retreat, it seems like ya get there and then ya have to come home. Definiately cool if ya got a week or two to stay and relax.

our place is just outside of traverse city (about 10 min drive.). It's on a lake and is just an awsome area. Its close enough to the city so if u need something its close but far enough away where it isnt all subdivisions.

Thats because all these car manufacturers are going "broke" so those people have to sell their summer homes just to keep up with the lifestyle they're accustomed to.

* No offense to any of you UAW guys here, it's just people I know and know their spending habits.

Very true, Its been coming for 5 or 6 years now, and a lot of them just refused to believe it would happen. At my last plant, there was a guy with a new 300k house, new vette, new firebird, 3500 Ram, Durango, 300M, quad runners, snowmobiles, a speed boat, the whole bit. when chrysler stuck it too us a few years ago( they broke contract and out sourced our plant), he had to scramble and sell everything for a huge loss. He's single now too, the wife didnt like the change.

You've got to budget on just 40 hours. If you get OT that's great, you treat it that way, it comes and goes.

Exactly! Too bad most people don't think like that though.
