Not that it matters now, but my A/C stopped working in the Cobra. What things should I look for?

One thing I noticed, I don't hear the compressor kicking on and off like it use to. Isn't there a pulley that the belt spins when you turn the a/c on? Could that go bad?

Any ideas let me know.
Thanks.

Look at the compressor..do you see it turn when the air is on? If not then you gotta replace the compressor. Seeing how you dont hear it turn on..thats probably what it is.

Nope, newer cars have a safety built in, no refridgerant, the compressor wont engage.

Probably low on charge.. probably a leak somewhere.

A leak would mean freon and that glow crap to spot the leak.

I'm sure there's a possibility that the compressor just stopped working and it's still full.

First thing, I'll check to see if the compressor kicks on when I turn the a/c on. If it doesn't, what's step #2? I'd hate to buy a compressor just to find out that I had a leak. This is winter time stuff so I'm just asking at this point.

If the compressor doesn't engage, get a pressure gauge and see where its at. If that checks out theres a pressure switch inline to the hi side, just unplug it and jump the two terminals together. If the compressor engages the switch is bad.

EDIT: I'll come by and check it out, just let me know when.

You can also jump the pressure switch which will force the pump to kick on. Of course you would only want to do that for a moment just to ensure the pump is working. Chances are you are low on Freon.

its either low on freon or the a bad pressure switch...i had to replace the switch on mine last yr

Cool, either way it sounds like it won't be expensive at all.
I just need the a/c for the summer months when my car gets hot as hell.

Bubba, thanks for the offer...if it's something I decide to tackle soon I will take you up on that. :D

Check your A/C fuse and relay, if thats ok, jump the low pressure switch, if the compressor ingages, youve got a leak somewhere.

Ah, check under the hood for a connection that has come loose, generally, if you have a slow leak, you would have noticed the compressor cycling on and off as the system lost pressure. For it to just stop would indicate an electrical problem, or major component failure that would have vented the freon very fast, and noticeable.

If you dont find a loose connection, throw a gauge on the system to check for pressure
