In a nut shell... I leave my dad and stop working for him... work for this other company and goto school on crash courses in this career... Then I work at the company's place of employment for 8 weeks... Then back into the classroom... Then back to the place of employment for 8 weeks... This repeats for 2 years... Then I move up to a true spot in this company... Starting pay is 50k-?? I can max out in this position for 150k... Also I can move up in the corporate ladder... Only thing is I have to take a huge drastic pay cut and I mean a big one... If my calculations are correct... I would have to put my project with the SRT on hault and just work to make ends meet....

Thoughts? Opinions?

Is it possible to cut down on the hours with your dad and start at the new place, but maybe at a slower pace?

I know how it is to work for the family, it aint easy to just quit, especially if you are still living at home.

Good luck with it bro.

stick where your at. Your dad will be more flexible with schooling if something comes up as comparied to someone else. This is if your dad is even like that to you.

I'm gonna have to go with Greg here. If something did ever come up, I'm sure your father would be really flexible with that. But do what you think would be best for you!!

Yeah i feel ya there man. I've debated that one for a long time. I did try it once and didnt like it at all. I worked at a dealership for a week and they ran me hard. They barely even let me stop to breathe. I couldn't take it and left. Look at how far you could get with your dad. If you don't see it far then i would consider changing careers. But see the possibilities like if you don't like it could you go back to your dad and stuff like that.

Depends on what type of job youre talking about, and can you see yourself doing it for a long time. If it doesnt work out, can you go back to work for your dad, or will he have to fill your position.

Go buy a bunch of lottery tickets, hope and pray you'll win, then retire at the young age of 20 with 10 females waiting on you hand and foot. Hey we can all wish.

Think about the future....if you are living at home still NOW is the time to do it. Do what will make you happy. That's my dilema now, making a lot of money but not happy with the job at all. It's hard to leave good money when you have lots of responsibilities....one day though when timing is better I will be looking for a new job again.

Indeed. That is how I feel sometimes. I'm just getting VERY sick of explaining the same sh!t over and over again to dumb people.....

Ya, I'm in a rut for sure.....

I'm thinking of starting a business...just trying to figure out what, how, and if any friends want in as well. If not a business, at least something to make extra cash that could eventually take off!!

Chuck - Detail cars in your spare time...it's good money. It could eventually grow into a big business for you.

And Reiko - Hmm, I'm not good with advice like that but just try to weigh out the options. Would it be something you like doing? Is it a solid job for the future or just something for now?

Lisa, no, if I'm going to give up the little spare time I have it needs to pay bigger dividends.

Was thinking something more like fixing up and selling houses, or having a new home biult, then turn around and selling it. Something like that. Little work on my part...just have to arrange financing, monitor the project and be broke for a short while, then turn around and make several thousand dollars. Just a lot of risk in that is all.

Reiko, life is about taking chances and having no regrets...do what you feel is the right thing.

Detailing payed me a lot more than you probably think, but ok...was just trying to help. ;)

Do you need a license or something like that to sell houses? My dad just went through that and I remember he had to take a class. Sounded not so bad.

Not sure. I'm talking to some people about this. I'm just needing something different...and a second income couldn't hurt. ;)

Look at that guy that invented the pet rock, he made a million dollars off that.

My idea is a "Jump to Conclusions mat", you see its this mat with a bunch of conclusions on it that you can "jump" to.

I crack myself up!!

Reiko, always think long term and where you will be in the next three years with your decision.

Chuch, just imagine if drinking black and tans were a paying job, you and Larry would be rollin in dough.

(Cracked myself up again.)

Reiko- sometimes you have to bite the bullet now to get ahead later, which is what you should be thinking about. 150K + and moving up the ladder? Don't sound too bad for the future. Gotta agree with everyone on one thing though, you have too be happy with your work, your gonna be there a long time. Good Luck!

If you're gonna make a change, do it now. Don't wait till you have a house, family, money pit(aka car project),etc. I'm going thru it now and it's hard. Lots a luck.
