I'll try to keep this short. As some of you know, I sold my original Olds W-25 Ram Air hood to a guy in Rhode Island last week, the hood was near mint condition, we made a good deal, the hood was crated in 2x10 lumber with 2x4 cross braces, and styrofoam and insulation to protect the hood. It arrived at its destination this morning( after a week of FedEx F@#% ups for the pick-up, and the hood is wrecked. Both rear corners are broke off, the front portion where the tooth attaches is broken off, and there is 2 large cracks in the surface off the fiberglass. On top of that, they jacked the shipping(from $250 to over $1100) claiming the package weighed over 300 lbs. There standard insurance wont cover the damage because the crate wasnt damaged enough???(The corner of the crate was ripped off), a package containing the hood pin assemblies is missing. WTF. assholes

Wow....keep fighting FedEx.
That sucks.
Next time for something that size use a Frieght carrier....probably would have cost around $50 to ship to a business and $100 to a residentual.

It was a freight carrier, FedEx Freight, couldnt go UPS cause of its size. The guy that bought it doesnt expect anything from me, he knows how good it was packed, he just wanted me to know what happen, and that FedEx wasnt going to do anything about it. After some serious bitching, and about 2 hours of phone pong with FedEx, they dropped the shipping charges to $589, but they still tell him they are not resposible for the damage. They told him that even if he had bought the extra insurance($5 per pound) in wouldnt cover the damage, wtf does it cover. They shipped the crate standing on end(it was loaded flat, with hi-lo runners on it), and it was loaded at the back of the truck, so it was bouncing around like a mother fucker(sorta like the back seat of the school bus). Its just a total waste of a nice original muscle car part thats rare and hard to find. Their original phone quote for shipping was $250 business to business, $75 extra for residential pickup, which we didnt ask for, but the showed up at my house on monday anyway, dumb fucks, then they said theyd be out first thing Wed morning at Diamonds shop, and didnt show until 3pm.

When I talked to the guy on the phone this afternoon, he just sounded so numb, I think he was in shock. I think after the weekend goes by, maybe he'll be ready to crack some skulls, he doesnt expect anything from me, he even said thanks for the way it was packed, he knew I tried my best, we spent $100 on materials. I was bummed about having to sell it, now im just pissed about how much of a waste it turned out to be, can you imagine how id feel if it was gonna cost me money too. Fuck.
That sucks..sorry to hear. :(
Damn - sorry to hear about this. You showed pictures of that crate in the other thread, and it looked to me like it was over-built. I couldn't imagine what they did to destroy it and the hood inside. Anyway, it's good to hear that the buyer doesn't blame you for this. Just curious, but did you have "THIS SIDE UP" along with arrows on the crate to indicate how it was supposed to be handled/shipped? At the very least, I think FedEx should refund all the shipping costs.
To add insult to injury, I can't believe how much they jacked you on the shipping charges. I had a 750 lb. air compressor truck freighted to me insured for a little more than $150 (came from southern Ohio). I had to pick it up at a local shipping dock though.

I drew arrows on the sides pointing up, the universal sign for "This side up, you fuckin jackass" and "This side up" written on the top along with the shipping information
